The May Rally was held at the Eagles Roost RV Resort & Conference Center in Lake Park, Georgia. Members attending were: Bill & Anniedia Daws; Charlie & Annette Hurst; Ginger & Shearn Spenard; Ginger’s brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Nancy Uhrich; and Mac McCauslin. Hosts were Katherine Kamiya and Jim Weilhammer. We were joined for Sunday breakfast by Sheryll Norris, a fellow Airstreamer from Port Charlotte, FL. She and her husband Robert are beginning a summer of travel and came into the park on Saturday evening on their way to Gillette, Wyoming.
The group enjoyed a wide variety of food at the Friday pot luck dinner, ranging from venison stew to teriyaki chicken wings and as always the courses and quantity seemed to balance out quite nicely. We discussed travel plans for the summer. Mac McCauslin recalled his first WBCCI International Convention in 1974. Mac and Marty traveled to Manitoba, Canada. Mac said this trip was one of the most enjoyable vacations they experienced.
Jim and Katherine had a hot and noisy first night with air conditioner problems. They were fortunate that Travel County RV was right next door. The service department was very accommodating working them into the repair schedule and getting the condenser working properly for a much cooler second night.
After breakfast on Saturday, several members picked up bargains at the Flea Marker and the Outlet Mall. Anniedia hosted a craft project for the ladies Saturday afternoon. Each made an “Airstream Lady,” a stuffed doll meant to keep us company on the road. Ginger brought beautiful wooden fans at the Flea Market and gave one to each lady, noting we were all of a “certain age” and might find then useful when our internal suns were shining.
Saturday evening we enjoyed a social hour and shared future travel plans. Annette and Charlie will be traveling in June up the east coast to beautiful Arcadia National Park. Katherine and Jim will be headed to Canyon de Shelley and the Grand Canyon in September. We had a Mexican Fiesta Buffet on Saturday with steak and chicken tacos, fresh corn salad, brownies and ice cream.
Sunday morning we took time after a pancake breakfast to remember those on the road and to send special prayers to members recovering from surgery. We were pleased Bill was well enough to lead our devotion and is on the slow road to recovery.
We were a small group but had a mighty big good time.
